5 Web Resources That Keep Librarians Connected

This post focuses on web resources that keep libraries and librarians connected to and through technology. Let's face it - technology is changing as we speak. And, we have no hope of keeping up - unless we know where to go for reliable information. No one expects us to know everything, but they do expect us to stay informed!  Visit these sites, bookmark them for future reference, and go forth into the library knowing that access to the latest information is only a click away.

TechSoup for Libraries
Devoted to making technology and technology education available and affordable to nonprofits and libraries all over the world. They  gather stories from public libraries about how they support their public computers. These tips and techniques are published in "Cookbooks" and articles, available for free on their website.

Library Journal
A comprehensive website offering information to ALL librarians. Find the latest news, technology, programs, training and more. Subscribe to their newsletters (they have several and you can choose which one best suits you) and have stories delivered to your inbox.

WebJunction
A program of OCLC WebJunction is free for all libraries to use, regardless of size, type or location. The site provides access to training and webinars in Library Services, Management, Technology, and Staff Development & Training. Signup for their Crossroads newsletter to stay up to date.

ALA Library Thinktank
A Facebook group of library people. Some currently working, some not, some with little experience some with lots - with more than 37,000 members its a great place to ask questions and share stories in real time. Use it to ask for advice about technology, to get display ideas or to share crazy patron stories. Something for everyone happens here.

The Reddit Libraries community also has a lot happening. A social networking site users can read and respond to posts, submit links,  and start discussions. You can also search posts making it easier to find specific content.

All of the resources listed here have been actively collecting content on the web for at least 10 years (except the Facebook group that started in 2011). Although I can't guarantee that they will all exist tomorrow - chances are pretty good they will. That's important when you're looking for information about technology!
